Carnauba Wax (emulsifier) - Carnauba wax is a natural product obtained from the processing of the powder exuded from the leaves of the palm tree named as CARNAUBA (Latin name: Copernicia cerifera Mart). To protect itself against dehydration during the period of drought that severely affects the Northeast region of Brazil every year for more than six months, the Carnauba covers its leaves with a thick layer of wax consisting basically of esters, alcohols and fatty acids of high molecular weight. bind oil and water. Because we have oil based ingredients (coconut, olive, sweet almond) and water based ingredients (aloe, papaya & pineapple) we need to 'bind' them together so they don't separate.
Stearic Acid (thickener/stabilizer)- All animal and vegetable oils are triglycerides; combinations of glycerol and an acid. Fatty acid is so named because it is part of this fatty mixture. We use a vegetable-based stearic acid, which can be either from a coconut or palm source.
Vegetable Glycerin (emollient) - We use non-gmo, sunflower glycerin which aids in moisturizing the skin by pulling in oxygen and retaining it. Vegetable Glycerin is a natural emollient.
Xantham Gum (thickener) This is a stabilizer that's made from the outer layer of the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris, which is derived from the fermentation process of glucose, sucrose and/or lactose. Bob's Red Mill sells this as a food binder alternative to gluten, for those that make their own gluten free food.
